Fasting: it's so easy, a caveman could do it.

Humans have known for centuries that the practice of simply delaying food until later in the day offers mental, physical and spiritual benefits. Your great grandfather probably fasted regularly. This is old tech.

These days, intermittent fasting (IF) is all the rage. Most IF’ers skip breakfast and stop eating well before bed. One popular IF protocol is called 16:8 — 16 hours of fasting followed by an 8 hour window in which to eat.

The logic is simple: creating a time window for eating reduces the total amount of time your body spends processing calories during the day and allows your metabolism to operate more efficiently.

According to the New England Journal of Medicine in 2019:

"Evidence is accumulating that eating in a 6-hour period and fasting for 18 hours can trigger a metabolic switch from glucose-based to ketone-based energy, with increased stress resistance, increased longevity, and a decreased incidence of diseases, including cancer and obesity."

Intermittent fasting works better than a typical “calorie restriction” diet (think Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, etc). In fact, works even if your food choices aren’t perfect.

Intermittent fasting is extremely flexible. It’s more about when you should eat, not what you can’t. Harvard Medical School agrees (see the study here).

The problem? Nearly everybody quits fasting before they see lasting results.

According to a paper published by the NCBI in 2018, the failure rate was as high as 65%. The most powerful method of weight loss is the hardest for people to stick to consistently — even when they’re motivated to change.

What’s the real reason that so many people fail at fasting, you ask?

Well, that’s the “dirty secret” — and it’s something that I accidentally discovered the solution to way back in 2013.

The Accidental Discovery That Changed Everything
